Damien Hirst for Supreme Skate Decks

Damien Hirst is the latest and arguably one of the most high-profile artists to join the Supreme ranks as a contributing artist. The pop artist and his artistic work has made him one of the most influential and powerful living artists. His attraction to realism and “provocative sensationalism” has yielded some of our generation’s most iconic pieces of work including preserved animals in formaldehyde which included a shark, sheep and cow. His work with Supreme features some of this trademark Spin paintings over three different decks. A short skate video featuring commentary from Damien Hirst can also be seen over at Supreme’s site. The decks will release Stateside on Thursday, April 2nd both online and in-store while the Japanese region will see their allocation release on Saturday, April 4th.

Rostarr “Wreckless Abandon” Exhibition

Artist Romon Kimin Yang aka. Rostarr, will be having his first solo exhibition in Miami next week at the Our House West of Wynwood gallery. If you’re in town, do check it out. More information below.

RostarrWreckless AbandonOctober 11 - November 8, 20083100 NW 7 Avenue / Miami / Florida / 33127

Romon Kimin Yang aka Rostarr, was born in South Korea but has lived in NY since 1989. He has been a key figure in the city’s underground art scene and has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.

His free-formed work comes across as a universe of abstract and geometrical shapes from which symbolic and iconographic elements emerge in elegant and incisive gestural strokes. His work is defined by an expression he calls ‘Graphysics’, meaning the fusion of graphic art and design and the physical laws governing the movement of energy. His work extends into the mediums of painting, digital media, sculpture, textile and public art projects with the Barnstormers collective.

Yang graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1993. In 2000, he was featured as one of I.D. magazine’s “I.D. 40 under 30″. In 2004, he was recognized as an honoree at the A.I.C.P. show held yearly at the New York Museum of Modern Art and his work has been reviewed by Art Forum, Modern Painters, The New York Times and Artnet.com among other prominent publications.

Keith Haring 50th Birthday Memorial Mural

For what would have amounted to legendary artist Keith Haring's 50th birthday on May 4th, the Deitch Projects with the help of Goldman Properties, the Keith Haring Foundation and Gotham Scenics have reproduced one of Haring's most stunning pieces in his illustrious career. The huge wall only lasted a few months before it was painted over but it would go down in art and neighborhood history as one of the most memorable works for its vivid colors and trademark Haring aesthetics. The wall was painstakingly redone via old archival photographs taken during the wall's original inception in 1982. The wall will be on display from May 4th until December 21st at Houston St. and Bowery in New York.
